Saraswati Devi

Sarasvati is well known in a variety of religions outside of Hinduism. She appears in Jainism and Buddhism, and has made her way from India to Japan as well as to other places around the world.
In Buddhism, Sarasvati is the bestowed of Knowledge, Intelligence & Memory; and she confers wisdom and learning upon her worshippers. Stories from mythology and accounts of the sthala purana indicate that sages, ardent devotees and great intellects have been blessed with the divine vision of Goddess Saraswati.
Saraswati Devi is the classic example of a Goddess whose popularity has survived from Vedic times into modern Hinduism. While many Vedic Goddesses such as Ushas and Aranyani simply disappear in later Hindu tradition, Saraswati Devi not only maintains her importance; she acquires additional attributes and her functions expand - from River Goddess to Goddess of Speech, Learning and Wisdom.
There are many descriptive verses (Epithets) for her and a few are to mentioned as follows:
• Impeller of true and sweet speech
• Awakener of happy and noble thoughts
• Dwelling in the front of the tongue
• She who dwells in sound
• Mistress of speech
• Possessing great speech
• The power of memory
• The Power of knowledge
• Whose form is the power of intellect
• She who is intelligence
• Whose form is all the science
• Who dwells in all books
• Who causes books to be made
• Mother of the world (Jaganmata)
We respect and worship Goddess Saraswati as a symbol of the wisdom as we all respect knowledge and believe that the knowledge is a power!
